NORTHERN LIGHT » Show Synopses http://northernlightradio.org Spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, Sundays 4pm-6pm Thu, 04 Mar 2010 06:36:06 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.2 en hourly 1 Julia Marie Band http://northernlightradio.org/2008/04/21/julia-marie-band/ http://northernlightradio.org/2008/04/21/julia-marie-band/#comments Mon, 21 Apr 2008 05:50:28 +0000 Pat http://northernlightradio.org/2008/04/21/julia-marie-band/ On this week’s show we featured two songs by the local Julia Marie Band from Madrid, NY. “Lone Hour” and “Colors Fade” were the two tracks we featured.

The Julia Marie Band includes a great, very comfortable blend of powerful female lead vocals, piano, electric guitar, and some classical guitar that will knock your socks off! Easy listening by people of a wide range of tastes, but not tame in the least, this band has music that will draw in any listener with its great instrument blend and powerful lyrics. Rock meets lounge meets classical guitar. Not your average singer/songwriter feel, and they have a sound that is well-seasoned and obviously very experienced. An album-at-once band that you won’t get tired of listening to after a couple tracks.

Songs are freely available on their website for preview or download, but donations are encouraged and the option to purchase a physical CD is also available. For these songs and more, please check out the Julia Marie Band website at: http://juliamarieband.com

Reading: Matthew 6:25-34 http://northernlightradio.org/2008/04/20/reading-matthew-625-34/ http://northernlightradio.org/2008/04/20/reading-matthew-625-34/#comments Mon, 21 Apr 2008 03:50:28 +0000 Pat http://northernlightradio.org/2008/04/20/reading-matthew-625-34/ Today I read from Matthew, Chapter 6. Here is an excerpt that I recommend:

25″Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]?

28″And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Reading from Psalm 32 http://northernlightradio.org/2008/03/02/reading-from-psalm-32/ http://northernlightradio.org/2008/03/02/reading-from-psalm-32/#comments Sun, 02 Mar 2008 22:12:02 +0000 Pat http://northernlightradio.org/2008/03/02/reading-from-psalm-32/ During today’s show I shared a reading from Psalm 32. Afterward, I talked about how bad my vision while wearing glasses is due to my outdated glasses prescription.

Psalm 32 (NIV)
Of David. A maskil.

1 Blessed is he
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.

2 Blessed is the man
whose sin the LORD does not count against him
and in whose spirit is no deceit.

3 When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.

4 For day and night
your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.

5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
my transgressions to the LORD “–
and you forgave
the guilt of my sin.

6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you
while you may be found;
surely when the mighty waters rise,
they will not reach him.

7 You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.

9 Do not be like the horse or the mule,
which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
or they will not come to you.

10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
but the LORD’s unfailing love
surrounds the man who trusts in him.

11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart!
